Question

Hi,since visiting my naturopath I have been told that I can no longer eat gluten, dairy and avoid soy products as much as possible. I really love my cheese and yogurt and was wondering if there was an alternative available that complied with my diet. I have heard of a thing called rice cheese - does Mrs Flannerys stores stock this product? Cheers and thanks for your help in advance!

Unfortunately we are not aware of a rice based cheese product.

Depending on the interpretation of your dairy restriction you may be allowed to consume products made using sheep and goat milk.

It is also possible to make your own yoghurt or fermented products using milk alternates like coconut milk, rice milk or almond milk and bacterial starter cultures like Turkish Kefir or lactobacillus.

The staff at Flannerys may be able to offer you advice on this matter. I also highly recommend the book Wild Fermentation By Sandor Ellix Katz as a wealth of information only making yoghurt cheese and other fermented products.
