Question
I am allergic to cow's milk but not goat milk. I read the label on the goat yoghurt you sell that it has added lactobacillus. Is it still able to be eaten by those with cows milk allergy? I wasn't told I was lactose intolerant.Naturopath's Answer
The bacteria that is used to ferment yoghurt originally has its basis as a fermented culture on a dairy base. These cultures while having names that indicate their origins do not have a relationship to the proteins of cow's milk.
It is for this reason that some of the probiotics that are sold and
contain Lactobacillus are labelled dairy free. In regards to your question it is suitable for you to continue to eat goats yoghurt as it does not contain cow milk or any of its proteins.
Goats milk does contain lactose and if this was your allergy you would not have been recommended it.
I hope this clears up any confusion.
